Re: Edinburgh

Right, who on the city council do we think was getting backhanders to shut down the Royal Overseas League Club? I've stayed there twice, and the building seemed perfectly sound to me. I've heard it's just closed whilst they consider refurbishment https://www.rosl.org.uk/press/479-the-royal-over-sea...

Re: Kelvingrove Park - Chalybeate spring

Glesga Council has a bad record of restoring fountains especially in Kelvingrove. I can think of 3 major restorations of the Stewart Memorial fountain in the park and now you never see the water running. It was claimed with the last restoration that it would recycle water and be functional and low m...

Re: THe Party's Over

Mac Such a profound post and so very poignant too. I couldn't simply view it and pass on without commenting and yet I find myself lost for words (and if you knew me, you'd find that hard to believe). We are often accused of looking at the past through 'rose tinted glasses' yet I despair at the thing...

Re: Clyde Port office building... demolished??

Banjo was that the fire that was caused by the stray rocket from Renfrew which landed in the derelict building or was the fire caused by someone flicking their fag from their car window as they passed over the Kingston Bridge? ::):

Re: What are you watching?

Reading through all these posts makes me an envious, jealous bastard. 3 women in my house: the wife, the recently turned teenage daughter and ten year old daughter and I'm 4th in line to the remote control and so I have to endure chick flicks and re-runs of Full House and Friends. What I'd give to w...

Re: Virginia Street

Yes, that's it - the very items of curiosity that are perplexing me just now. I'd love to know the story behind them before I expire this earth....

Virginia Street

Despite my best efforts, I've searched this site for an answer to this question. In Glasgow's Virginia Street, there are two iron objects (one which I think is a bell) the other, I don't want to speculate given what it reminded me off. They are directly opposite a store called Felix and Oscars (?). ...

Re: Hidden Glasgow Hall of Record

I think Hollowhorn's 'directory' of this site where subjects were classified and laid out in an easy to find approach was one of his greatest contributions to this forum. I miss his wee messages in my inbox but I have to say, as much as Dexter could add a valued contribution to this board and he did...

Re: Sad News

I'm often tempted to suggest that we do something to celebrate the lives of Josef, Hollowhorn, YokerBrian and others. I don't know what kind of format that celebration would be and how welcome it would be but it would be good to mark their contribution to this forum and to the lives of those who enc...

Re: Sad News

Interacted many times on this site but never once met him or many of the others, through my shyness of going to pub meets or difficulties in attending outings on a Sunday. All of these factors lead to me losing out and I missed out meeting in person but I did manage to interact on here and his contr...

Re: Not really interesting facts about yourself

I'm doing the Zip Slide over the Clyde for Breast Cancer Care on Saturday around 1pm. Raised quite a wee bit of money in the process too and still more to come.

Oh, and a happy belated birthday wish to Banjo!
