Also, worth pointing out. If architects attempt anything ambitious (aka 110 St Vincent Street) they get shot down by the heritage police. The "glass box" tm is the result. The irony is noone cares about the quality of new projects unless they happen to adjoin/sprout out of a historic building, ie th...

Nice find. It certainly complements the two adjoining buildings, could have incorporated red sandstone. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y265/gleegie2/HopeStreet1fromNorth_edited.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y265/gleegie2/HopeStreet1_edited.jpg The protruding "box" is another gm+ad signature...

Brilliant pics! I'd forgotten about the old Daily Record HQ, or maybe I just blanked it from my mind? Anyway, cheers.

Elphinstone tower will be incredible, it isn't a sheer sheet of glass like some of the towers down south, the facade is ribbed with balconies. It will look stunning particularly lit up at night, or coming in on the motorway, your jaw will drop. There will be a public restaurant/skybar on the top flo...

The virtual mitchell, as ever, turns up trumps. http://www.mitchelllibrary.org/vm/searches/streets_a.html North street, past. http://www.mitchelllibrary.org/vm/images/g250/g025048x.jpg North street, future. I dunno, something looks a wee bit different. http://www.skyscrapernews.com/images/pics/401El...

It's been moved to the central courtyard of the block bounded by the trongate, bell, albion and high streets.

It's likely just the artist having a laugh.

The 1970's were the worst decade of the twentieth century for Glasgow. The pace of destruction accelerated after Esher, it wasn't halted till attitudes changed in the early 80's. Govan wasn't actually as badly hit as other areas, large bits of it remain, low grade early Victorian tenements were smas...

Nah. The "gardens" are a waste of space. Nobody's going to want to sit next to traffic clogged Cathedral street. Greenery and buildings should be distinct, it increases the impact of both. The fantastic new garden on the site of Rottenrow is an example of this. I believe Page and Park are responsibl...

We're talking about Dumbarton town centre here, not Milngavie. In any case a 13 storey tower isn't a "skyscraper" and it overlooks a public square, not peoples houses. The brewery tower acts as a "marker" for the town centre and injects much needed dynamism to the skyline, thanks to this project it ...

Difference being Boston learned from their mistakes, we're still making them. "Calls out M74 extension as first witness."

Didn't know about the residential at port Dundas, sounds fantastic. RMJM don't have anything on their website, strangely.

I don't know the specific buildings you're referring too, but they sound like the shoddy council built stuff thrown up between the wars. You get them all around the fringe of the Victorian city. http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Shores/6891/royston3.jpg They're foul. They had cheek to use this stu...

How'd you get up there?

You should post these on http://www.skyscrapercity.com, they'll go nuts.

Interesting view of the British museum!

Some comparison shots.... Parliamentary road, 1955. Correct me if I'm wrong here but I believe, the spire in the far distance is the Townhead church on Roystonhill, tallest spire in the city and recently saved from the council by determined community action:) The tenements in the middle distance are...
