Re: Maryhill Burgh Hall

Glad you enjoyed the tour! Yes, that is me just visible behind a pillar.

We had an astonishing 1,500 people visiting over the Doors Open weekend - somewhat more than we were expecting !

Re: HG Walk - Crossing Glasgow by Barge, Sun 22nd April

Plus, if you want to do your homework before Sunday, why not download my free Maryhill App (for Android and iPhones) that includes a GPS-referenced nice map of the entire north Glasgow area from 1900, so you can see how the places we'll be passing looked over 100 years ago as you walk along... (do t...

Re: HG Walk - Crossing Glasgow by Barge, Sun 22nd April

The picture on the right hand page hasn't changed much over the years either - that building is still there, as you'll see on Sunday. Will make a good past present photo!

Re: HG Walk - Crossing Glasgow by Barge, Sun 22nd April

Unless I'm mistaken, the building in the background to the top left of the first image - with a clock in the centre of the chimney is the famous 'clock in the lum' of the original Maryhill Burgh Halls, converted from a bakery, and later a doctor's surgery. There's a photo of it here in the 1940s, ju...

Re: HG Walk - Crossing Glasgow by Barge, Sun 22nd April

If there's enough interest, I might be able to offer a wee exclusive HG tour round Maryhill Burgh Halls and our old and new stained glass windows as part of this? Seeing as the route will be passing by anyway! Nodrog (with his stained glass wrangler hat on) http://www.flickr.com/photos/maryhillburgh...

Re: Ask Alex

Back on page 1 of this thread, in Jan 2006, I asked about when GCC was going to implement a proper online planning system, like that Edinburgh has had for years. Excitingly - only five years later! - my wishes have finally come true - Glasgow Online Planning is here !!! http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/...

Some images from the Pearce taken yesterday, as the restored ship was unveiled and returned to the roof; also a glimpse of the interior restoration works in progress. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2428/5708142138_bc1e2b5f31_z.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2220/5707576559_4fa8bdce48_z.jpg http:...

Re: Cinema to star in £20,000 Govan revamp

My personal favourite was the Toledo in Muriend. It was built in an imitation of a moor castle, I think. It was converted into flats but the facade was retained. Wasn't there a cinema in Shawlands opposite the Academy? I think it was called the Elephant and latterly was a bingo hall, as many of the...

Re: have theypulled down that red police box

Just to confirm - the box at Wilson St is indeed back on the street (although last time I passed, just sitting up on blocks). http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5204/5244651961_005008453a.jpg It was refurbished as part of the Merchant City Townscape work last year - the light at the top flashes, and it ...
