Re: Not really interesting facts about yourself

Mods and ex mods.. what I meant to say in the above post can be summed up as "Welcome back pgcc". I'd doubt he has the temerity. Anyone who can wave merrily at a goodly percentage of the HG 'Good and Great' as he drives past them in Cardross whilst they trudge through torrential rain, cle...

Re: Not really interesting facts about yourself

I'm the least, longest and most infrequent contributor to these forums... And little wonder. We're up to PGCC93 now. Innovate or die, dear Sir. Sir, Pgcc93 is a mere imposter whom by chance infiltrated a glaring vacancy on HG on which the latter imputed oneself. Alas, I digress. Mods and ex mods.. w...

Rotundas

OK lummer welcome to the site. Good question.....what are/were the Rotundas used for?. In a brief and concise history, It was built mid to late 19th century to allow the free flow of vehicular & pedestrian traffic to cross the clyde by means of a tunnel system. It was served by a hydraulic platf...

Nice one Dave, Hope you found it interesting. I'm interested in the old distillery you mention. I reckon the Dog might be somewhere in the "very ruined, dark, and interesting" part you mention  . As a fellow dog lover you may want to be part of a search party to look for aforemetioned lost pet...

Re: Where's that?

The the Henry Bell Monument is in the grounds of what remains of Dunglass Castle. It can been seen easily from Bowling or the slip road @ Bowling roundabout. It is a somewhat tranquil setting as it is well away from the road & due to the fact that it has been part of a secure site for decades. H...

Accesible Clydeside Relics Soon to Vanish

How about adding some of the old oil terminals @ Dalmuir or Bowling, theres even a derelict boatyard that is worthy of a photographic record before the bulldozer's move in. Or how about Dunglass Castle & the Henry Bell monument ( wheres that they ask?) not easily accessible to the general public...

RE: New Photos added

Great to see the latest snaps on the site. I see you managed to get in and have a look round for yourselves :D,are you going to do an article of your trip for the site??. What stood out the most for me on my own trips @ the new year was the heavy musty smell that hung in the air inside the 2 newer b...

Re: Where are all the Water Towers???

There are supposed to be 14 of these, to date we have found 8! If you know of a water tower please post here and let me know... Sharon I'm sure there was a water tower at Priesthill/Darnley 2-3 years ago, but it was demolished while they were redeveloping the area. Can anyone else remember or was I...

When did the Meadowside Granary finally close?

Does anyone know when the Granary finally ceased being used for it's sole purpose as a grain store?. I lived accross the road from it in Thornwood between 1988-96, but was never aware of much grain operation.
