Re: Old Indian Restaurant Ingram St

It was called Zhamil's, and was actually within Zhivago's.

There was also a downstairs club called either Zico's or Zicos.

Re: When Music Was Music. Frank Skerret Show

When Music Was Music was a nostalgia show; you guys are nostalgic for nostagia! Prior to his Radio Clyde days, Frank had a column in either the Daily Record or Evening Times, answering folks' legal questions, often with a bit of humour thrown in. I remember once in his column he said he was clearing...

Re: Metal detecting in Glasgow?

I used to see the occasional 'detectorist' in the Dams to Darnley country park in the South West of Glasgow, so it may be worthwhile contacting them to see if it is permitted... http://www.damstodarnley.org There used to be a lot of industrial activity in the area, and there was also a gun emplaceme...

Re: Old Bottles

A nice old Johnnie Walker Black Label bottle in the middle there, and I'm intrigued by "Macdonald's Highland Malt Whisky": somehow I get the impression it was not distilled in Scotland... Correction: I can just make out 'Leith' when I enlarge the photo, so could be Roderick Macdonald, of M...

Re: Lion Chambers Building Shop History

Douglas the stationers occupied that site for donkey's years, right up until fairly recently.

Here's the entry in Sell's Directory from 1963, so is within your time frame.

You don't seem to understand; Dexter has been barred from this site.

Note also that other stalwarts like Fossil and HollowHorn have also stopped contributing, though I'm quite sure they haven't been thrown out.

Re: Old Cars etc Spotted

Sorry to say this Volunteer, but I always preferred the Traveller over the saloon; same with the (original) Mini Countryman. Dave's E-Type photo is interesting, appearing to show a very late 1st series, but without the flush glazing over the headlight recesses; just like later series 'E's. Here's an...

A slightly more modern Datsun: not a Sunny, but a Cherry owned by my mate Harry Longabaugh (I've blanked his coupon as he's now a highly-respected member of the local community under his real name). Photo taken near Kelso, 1982. https://c4.staticflickr.com/4/3830/18462123233_864def2b96_z.jpg Kelso5 ...

Re: Ice cream vans

I grew up in Lunderston Drive in the 1960s, so probably bought Meredith & Drew Mini Chips and a Jellimallo off of you. Was the Silver Cloud van a Commer or Karrier? I also remember Tosh's van, Jaconelli's, and the occasional appearance of the little Walls Ford Anglia van, which dispensed foamy i...

Love your Dad's jersey. That was the era when every man was given a Val Doonican Jersey at Christmas time. ...and the Rupert The Bear trousers: my brother and his mates used to give him pelters whenever he wore them. The Ford Escort Van has a Registration Mark that would have originated in North Lo...

A beautiful Rover P5, pristine and looking the part beside Maisy Morris. Neilmc, fancy doing an "instamatic" job on this pic? When I was younger, we never referred to Rovers by their 'P' numbers: it was, like, Rover 90, or Rover 2000, or in this case, Rover 3.5 coupe. I tried to give your...

Re: Flickr

I can now see the automatic tags when I log in to Flickr via my browser, but not on my app., which is strange. Like Dave's, most of my photos have been given pretty bland tags; however, the following photo has 'outdoor/water/forest/landscape/stream/creek/snow/plant/tree/serene'...! https://c4.static...
