They used to call it the finest Victorian City in Britain but I don't think they can still say that now. So what is? I don't know. Maybe Glasgow can still lay claim to the title. It just seems to me that if you have something that makes you "the greatest", then you'd do all you can to pre...

I was home at the weekend and like every other time, I felt sad at what I saw in Glasgow. They used to call it the finest Victorian City in Britain but I don't think they can still say that now. The west end of the city centre is fast becoming the Croydon of Scotland, full of ugly concrete and glass...

According to the Sunday Herald yesterday, they are definitely owned by the council, who as Mori said, have leased them to the art school.

How do you spot an HGer on Argyle St?

I'm up visiting the folks this weekend. First time I've been in Glasgow since I started damaging my braincells by becoming an HGer. I'm just wondering how to spot other HGers when I'm out and about on the streets of Glasgow. Do you all wear a badge or have a funny hanshake? Or maybe some kind of mar...

I'm just back from a day at Windsor Castle. Not, I hasten to add out of personal interest. It was work..................honest. It was quite interesting though, even for an unreformed socialist republican like myself. Couldn't help noticing how many of the "treasures" were actually stolen....

I, Schiehallion, would like to nominate Lesley Garret as someone would get it. A 'kid-on' posh bird so no need to break out the good cutlery and that. She's got the look of a woman who is as equally at home giving it laldy under the duvet or in the kitchen making a rerr pot of lentil soup. http://i...

I worked here for a couple of years in my yoof as a postie. If there ever was a tunnel, it's probably been blocked up with a mixture of long lost drunk postmen and undelivered mail. an interest in getting pished was almost an essential requirement to get a job there.

Cant imagine why the Hutchie estate failed... James H I seem to remember reading that the architect (I'm sure it was James Stirling) rejected all criticism directed at the design of the estate. When it was announced they were to be flattened, he blamed the people living in the estate for tur...

Re: The Last Fatal Duel in Scotland

Not so long ago the news featured a story on the last fatal duel in Scotland - Kirkcaldy 1826. I have been reading a very interesting book published at the time of the Queen's coronation called 'The Queen's Scotland' and the author stated the last fatal duel was in 1821 - also in Kirkcaldy - and th...

Beards can be very sexy in a "cave-man"(!) way. My hub grew a beard for a laugh/experiment when I asked him how long he thought it would take,so,he went ahead & found out. At first,I thought it was daft looking but strangely I started to get attached to it & grew to love it! ::): ...

Oh I'm not sure if I should be posting on this topic but I will force myself!!! Like Kitten and i'm sure a few other on HG, I had a 'deprived' childhood and lived on the Bru for a couple of years in the 80's and I know how easy it could be to fall into the rut of a DSS lifestyle. But something made ...
