Re: Rain, violence and chips: this is Glasgow,

For all the bad press Glasgow has had, I have to say that the first time I was caught up in football violence was in Manchester on a Saturday afternoon when I was out shopping.
I was born and raised in Glasgow and it's no worse than any other big city and better than most. Leave Glasgow alone.

Re: Demolished Glasgow Cinemas

What a fantastic thread. Thanks for all the old pictures. The Rio, Roxy, and the Seamore were the picture halls I went to in my youth. Also the Star, which was known locally as the 'Fleapit'

Changes.

I moved away from Glasgow in the 1960's though I continued to work there until the late 70's. From then on I was never back in the city till recently, other than driving through on the M8 or on an evening trip into the SECC or Armadillo. Not long ago I met up with my sister and we decided to have a ...

Re: Glasgow Hurricane January 1968

I remember it very well. The farm up the road from us had their hen house and hens all blown away. The hens mostly survived but the henhouse was torn to shreds. Their dog kennel flew 1/2 mile across the field, Dog wasn't in it at the time though, and I couldn't get out in the morning for fallen tree...

Re: Petition STV

Well I was pissed off last night when Rangers were playing in Rumania and STV was showing an English international.
I am sick of looking at English matches when Scottish matches don't get shown, now that Setanta is gone.

Re: City Foxes

Don't mention bats to me. I have a nursery roost under my roof tiles and I am not allowed to disturb it because they are a protected species. The noise from the babies when they are born in almost unbearable, and I can't use my attic bedroom in the summer months for the racket. You can hear them scr...

Re: Smoking

I have smoked for 50 years, and recently I decided to stop. I tried cold turkey but failed. I then went to the doctor for help. He gave me some pills and I took them as prescribed. I was fine for a week, then I began to suffer from really bad hot flushes and thought I was going through a second meno...

Re: Vote: John Smeaton

Not quite the interpretation I would have put on Gahn ya bawbag. I always assumed that the term ' bawbag ' meant nae baws, which could be attributed to a man who kicks another when he is down but gives it laldy verbally.

Re: The Scots Who Made the Modern World

I believe there is a book by that title and it's well worth a read. A friend loaned me it a few years ago and I can't remember the author's name.
