Correct Dugald. The Albion was a dog track, not a dedicated football ground but was used as Rangers training ground until it was replaced by a car park to accommodate the expansion of Ibrox.
That could be the old line down from High St to Bridgeton Central - wouldn't evidence of the old Gallowgate Central station on this line be around the vicinty as well?
The 'Kirkiebus' no. 70 to Lennoxtown would go 'via Mavis Valley' even in the 1990s! What this meant was a detour off Kirkintilloch Rd, down Balmuildy Rd then back up Hilton Rd to rejoin Kirkintilloch Rd at the Eagle Lodge.
One of my earliest recollections was being on a train that crossed a bridge between two buildings. Thinking back, I'm sure it was the bridge at Glasgow Cross. When did trains stop going into St Enoch? This would have been mid-late 70s
The music venue mentioned in West George Street probably became either Talk of the Town or Peggy Sue's (or both) as these were in the building that went up in flames.
Other venues that no longer appear on gig listings include:
Glasgow Tech College of Building & Printing Strathclyde Uni The Venue
Dimairt - would love to see the photos of the Phoenix Park area, my old man lived in Phoenix Park Terrace before being decanted to Easterhouse in his teens.
Went to a party in the Yorkhill tunnel last summer. I know Shitdisco (a local band) have held parties there as well. Pics on their website of the candlelit entrance.
