Hi Targer, anyone I have met who had a connection with RR Hillington has always spoken well of their time there.

Glasgow Aviation History Book

By kind permission of the mods, I wanted to give the details of a book I have just published on Amazon on aspects of Glasgow’s aviation history. It was part of a ten year project started in July 2009 to cover the full history of aviation in upper Clydeside, but unfortunately the whole project did no...

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

Could anyone give me dates on which Renfrew aerodrome was bombed please? I am sure it was bombed over the 13-15 March 1941 and I have read in the RAF 13 Group operations record book that a bomb was also dropped on the airfield on 14 October 1940 but I wasn’t sure if it had been hit during the Clydes...

Re: Hitler's deputy crashed in Scotland

Thalia - Thx I don't think that is the one but this Professor was a Nazi sympathiser. His parachute escapade was in the papers at the time.

Re: Hitler's deputy crashed in Scotland

Not sure if this is anywhere else on the forum (I couldn't find anything). Does anyone know anything about a Nazi sympathiser named Professor Berthold Rubin who supposedly dropped thousands of leaflets over Glasgow from a light plane in May 1968 calling for the release of Rudolf Hess from Spandau? I...

Many thanks Robertpool. I might have found the farm if it had been spelled correctly!

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

Would I be right in saying there was no bombing of Glasgow or upper Clydeside in the First World War? I know Edinburgh was bombed by Zeppelins in 1916. Also could someone kindly tell me which area of Glasgow McAslin Street is located in as I can't work it out from maps (this is for my list of locati...

Airwork Renfrew Football Team 1940-1944

Airwork repaired WWII aircraft at Renfrew Airport (the original Glasgow Airport) employing 400+ at its peak. Their operation there closed down in 1949/50.

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

That is useful information thank you. Once I have finished going through all the RAF records, I am going to head along to the Mitchell to see what they have.

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

Well, I have just spent the day at the National Archive at Kew going through the RAF 13 Group Operations Records Books which give a summary of each days events for their area (N England and the whole of Scotland). Quite a lot was going on, on 28/29 November 1940 it seems. The Clyde raid was designat...

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

I have been looking at the Glasgow and Upper Clydeside Blitz from the Luftwaffe and RAF side. One highly unusual raid appears to have taken place on 28/29 November 1940. Three FW200 Condors attacked Glasgow on this night/early morning. It was very unusual because the Condors very rarely attacked mai...

Re: Bombs over Glasgow in WW2

Hello, I just wanted to say hello to everyone as I am new to the forum. I am very interested in this thread in particular. I am one of six people writing up a history of aviation in Glasgow and upper Clydeside. We have been at it since 2009 and Air Britain are hoping to publish the book (possibly a ...
