Whatever Happened To the Likely Lads. Freeview, Drama channel 20, about 6.40pm week nights. Great stuff!

Re: What are you watching?

Don`t be too fooled by The Big Man. A coupla autumns ago, he got interviewed with Saturday Herald`s magazine. He talked down Scottish independence, saying it was absurd for such a small wee nation. This is the guy who, in 1990, got stitched up by the Sunday Mail for routing his money through an offs...

Re: What are you watching?

Steptoe & Son, Drama channel (the freeview Drama channel on Ch 20, not the satellite namessake). Tonight`s ep: My Dad Is A Tory. Father & Son, Labour and Tory voters, having a go at each other. 50 odd years old that ep. Nothing ever changes. And nothing ever will. We had that chance for a ne...

Re: Tower Block Demolitions - Rolling Updates!

They`ve got weird night lighting. A vertical row of lights running right up the middle. Wonder why? Something to do with air traffic, maybe?

Re: Thank goodness for the CW games

Oh dear. So many negative, bitter opinions in this thread! I went for a walk along to Glasgow Green on my lunch break and mingled with the crowds. It's great to see so many Glasgow people buzzing around (without the help of Evo-Stik). It seems that I'm a minority on this board with that opinion. I'...

Re: Schipka Pass

Correct. It`s a chronological list of all bands/solo artists who ever played the Barrowland Ballroom. The park is temporary. There for the games only. The privately owned land, now decorated at our expense, will thus accrue in value for the owner who plans new private flats. Nice. That Tardis...

Re: Part time policing?

Police Scotland have confirmed that dozens of police station front counters are to close from 3 March. Only a handful of more than 60 stations marked to shut public counters or cut hours have been given a reprieve. The controversial plans were put to consultation in October. The public can still re...

Re: Bottom of High Street

Anyone have photos of The Wee Scone Shop? During the 70`s, this jumped from the east side of the bottom of Saltmarket to the west side, down at the 2nd set of lights. They flogged a fantastic big scone wheel covered in hailstone wee balls of sugar. Great for the school hols!

Re: New Park on the Merchant City Selfridges Site?

The George Square Brigade take us for having short-memories. Sure, it`ll be a short-term temporary distraction while they struggle to figure what to do with the mess they`ve got themselves in. It`ll be a nice wee green oasis for the busy weekend shoppers to calm down at while waiting for their buses...

Re: New Park on the Merchant City Selfridges Site?

This is total pie in the sky of course Sure is. There was already a small "city centre park" -- just east of the Glasgow Cross Steeple (Clock) Tower, between the tower and The Crystal Bells. Needless to say, in the end it became a magnet for dossers and young boozed up rowdies. How will r...

Re: Lost Retail Chains

Yeah.... City Cash Tailors, Saltmarket. Gad! I think they primarily existed for the benefit of those Provident Cheques/Vouchers a lot of hard-up working families got to help get clothes for the kids, though not necessarily school uniforms.
