Re: Pollok, Househill and Hurlet

Hi Carol-Anne, Sorry for the delay in answering your request for details of me, my name is Ron Little and I went to Levern Primary and also like yourself was in the first intake to Craigbank Sec. Some of the pupils I can remember who came from Roughmussell were Valerie Ashmore. Noreen Roberts, John ...

Re: Pollok, Househill and Hurlet

Hi Alex,

Once again great photos and greatly appreciated. The cottages look in great condition, is the house with the long driveway owned privately.

The new houses on Bankbrae look impressive but still hard to understand why Craigbank was demolished when they were only up for sixty years.

Re: Pollok, Househill and Hurlet

Hi Alex, You may remember me from a couple of years ago(Ron Little). You kindly offered to meet my wife and I when we visited Glasgow but the dates clashed with your commitments. We are now back living in New Zealand but always keeping a watchful eye over this great forum and admiring your extensive...

Did'nt Mc Quatters lane run from Nitshill rd adjacent to the Railway Inn and went in the direction of Barrhead. Who remembers the cafe at the corner of Nitshill rd and Cleeves rd which was run by an Italian family of brothers and a sister then located to the present Nitshill shops across from where ...

Hi John, Thanks for the great pictures. I am very grateful to you and Alex for the time and effort you have both gone to in showing me the changes to Craigbank. I just can't believe how the area has changed so dramatically in a relatively short time. I mean modern day housing should last longer than...

My wife and I are travelling to Mallaig next month and hopefu...

Hi John and Alex, Thanks for the information and outstanding photos of Levern Primary. What memories they bring back. I can just see all the kids running around the playground and the Janny blewing his whistle. I am 58 yrs old and we were the first tenants in 1951 and my Mum left in 1986, she used t...

G'day John, Thanks for the reply, you never know we probably passed each over as kids. I lived at 249 Glenlora Drive , a few yards from the church on Peat Rd. Went to Levern and then was the first intake of pupils at Craigbank Sec in 1960. Spent 30 years in NZ and AUSTRALIA before returning to UK an...

Hi John, Thanks for the reply and good to hear from someone who remembers the Red Hills. I do recall the hills before the Niaroo was built, was'nt there a large pit full of water around there, a quarry or something. I lived just a stones throw from the garage on Peat Road which is I believe now Arno...

POLLOK,HOUSEHILL AND HURLET

Hi There, I have just discovered this great site and as I grew up from 1951 to 1970 at Craigbank I am very interested to hear about this area. I certainly remember the witches chains, the fossilised tree and have fond memories of swimming in the Levern burn and climbing all over the iron bridge just...
