A couple of views of the west facade, concealed by the 1930s build on Church Street. I had completely forgotten that the chapel would have been visible from the street for a few years. Here it is on a 1932 map: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/dazzababes.pics/Chapel/untitled_zps9qv3tphq.jpg~or...

Re: Southern General Hospital & Redevelopment

Worth a look at the Southern on Google Earth. Ariel views hugely different from the streetview Have a look at Law Hospital... that's really crazy: 55.759034, -3.855989 The default photo must be from around 2001 as there are still cars parked all over the grounds. Oh, and the hospital is actually st...

Re: Southern General Hospital & Redevelopment

Absolutely astounding, but not in the least surprising. No records of Queen Elizabeth University Hospital rebrand meeting NO record was made of a meeting where top NHS executives discussed changing the name of Scotland's largest hospital, it has emerged. Health board NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde sa...

Re: Southern General Hospital & Redevelopment

Went through yesterday. I see the old Mortuary site is now cleared. Is that going to be another car park? Yes, another car park. Here's a photo of the cleared grounds... http://www.dunne-group.com/media/209775/New-Glasgow-South-Hospital-Multi-Storey-Car-Park-No3-Dunne-Building-4.jpg And further pla...

Erm, can the Roundhouse be accessed from inside the INS, or is it now padlocked?

Re: Southern General Hospital & Redevelopment

The total cost of the renaming, the bulk of which was accounted for by the ceremony and three commemorative plaques, has been given as £100,486. This information has been collated in order to respond to requests for information received by NHSGGC under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002,...

Re: Hospitals & Asylums

As you say Dazza, many of the patients went out to live in the community where, sadly, many were left to 'sink or swim' on their own, partly through lack of staff numbers to support them. I was in the Isle of Man at the time, but kept in touch with folk I trained with and, as it happens, my OH used...

Most of them have closed over the span of may career as well :( Few are still in use or the sites are: Eye Infirmary is now of course the Sandyford, Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinic Mearnskirk Hospital Site, still has a small long stay unit on that site (how the HB got round selling off most o...

Re: Hospitals & Asylums

Speaking of closures; I was walking past the former Eye Infirmary earlier and it got me thinking about the list of hospitals at the back of my 1990 Glasgow A-Z Street Atlas. All these are now gone in the past 25 years: Belvidere, Birdston, Blawarthill, Broomhill, Canniesburn, Cowglen, Darnley, David...
