Simba, I asked at the People's Palace on my last visit and was told he is now in the storage facility at Nitshill, but could be visited on request. Wallace can be found in his wee glass case in the reception to SFR's North West Glasgow headquarters on Port Dundas Road. As far as I know he was moved...

http://www.grahamston.com/ I notice from that map that it has "Hope St." in the 19th century. I thought Hope St was called Main St until the 1920's when Bridgeton was absorbed into the city and it's name was changed, leaving the one "Main St" in Glasgow belonging to Brigton. You...

Anyone notice the steam engine in Glasgow Central on Thursday? Bloody hell, I know scotrail is tight on rolling stock, but I thought that was a bit desperate! http://agraham.smugmug.com/photos/92389932-O.jpg Sorry about the sepia .... I think you're on a loser with the shortest, I've had a rummage through my GPS and there are any number of streets of similar or shorter length to Clayslaps Road. I'd probably wager safe that you'd have to go on foot to find it as anything short enough to qualify won't show up on maps that mortals ...

This is Brandon Street in Motherwell, now Brandon Parade after pedestrianisation in 1979. The Horseshoe is still there.

the original name for Turnberry Road is indeed Minard road. For others check out http://www.glasgowguide.co.uk/info-streetschanged2.html There is another good example like the one posted in Larbert Street in Cowcaddens. It used to be called Muse Lane, and the old sign can clearly be seen on the side...

The original clipping from the Daily Record in 1982 from 44 Glen Street Motherwell was the local shop near where I grew up in Wood Crescent. I lived there until I was 18, and from the memory of many of the locals the story is quite likely to be completely accurate. Its still there and run by the sam...

Wigton Street

What happened to the wee slice of Wigton Street that survived until recently at the top of Rodney Street?

Further to the discussions about an abandoned street under Argyle Street, I have heard rumours that some of the old Alston Street (which ran from Argyle Street to Gordon [then called Melville] Street between Hope Street and Union Street) is still present under parts of Central Station. Could this po...

Although these phantom street names appear on online maps and especially satnav systems, there are certain streets which are not signposted, but appear on maps and do seem to exist. A good one is Mary Street, with a business, Loxley Colour having their address as number 5. This is at the top of High...
