Forgot to say re: Hipsway. Can't say for sure whether they were from Glasgow, but in the song 'Tinder', which was also used for a MacEwans lager ad IIRC, (but not the same one as the balls being pushed ap the hill), there is a line :- "at seven in the morning, tinder all my money, on the great weste...

What about 'Love & Money' who had a few hits (eg Halleluiah Man & Strange Kind of Love', and a few decent albums? James Grant was the singer/songwriter. Pretty sure they were from Glasgow, and one of the songs on the album 'Strange Kind of Love' is called 'Jocelyn Sq'. Wasn't that name menti...

Another water tower spotted

Spotted another one yesterday, this time near Cumbernauld. It's visible from the A80 near Old Inns petrol station, up on the hill to the north of Cumbernauld village towards Dullatur. This one is in an 'unrestored' state, ie not all painted up and underlit like several of the others.

Slightly off topic I know, but there's a good one in a wee village called Clachan between Tarbert and Campbeltown, which is painted white and has only two sides, taking the form of a porch to a house, the open sides being to the house door and the street. There used to be one in a garden centre (in ...

Yes I remember it. It was quite a big shop as I remember it (or maybe just 'cos I was small!). My brother and I used to drool over model railways in there.... Hornby, Lima & all those old makes.

Only know a wee bit of its route, and that's in the Bridgeton area. If you go up Fordneuk street from the London Rd end, on the right (ie the east) there is a Glasgow City Council vehicle pound. Immediately to its north there is an interesting old building (which I know nothing about and is worth di...

To get to the Barloch one, using Milngavie Stn as a starting point, you'd turn right out of the station car park and head straight across the traffic lights past a big red sandstone church called St Pauls up a steep hill called Baldernock Rd. At the top of the hill you'd go left into Balfleurs St, t...

I was in Vietnam in 2001 as part of a backpacking expedition, and went to visit the Cu Chi Tunnells. Really interesting. There were two open to visitors, the first being larger than the second. I, at 5'11" and a bit on the 'chunky' side, only just managed to fit down the first one, so I gave th...

Passed it again last night at the same time, and the door was open again. This time I could see a concertina type shutter door running across about half of it on an east-west axis, ie parallel with Cathedral St. So, perhaps there's something interesting behind that.

I've often wondered about that thing too. I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere else on this site. I was passing it on a bus tonight at tea time and the shutter door was open, so I peered in as best I could. There were a few workmen type blokes in there, but all I could see were some lockers, brushes an...

By the way James, how do you attach pictures in the way you have been on your posts as I might like to put some pics on at some point? (sorry I'm a bit ham fisted when it comes to computers!)

Yes indeed it was a disgrace. What tourists must think of the mess and litter on the streets of Glasgow even today is an embarrassment. :(

Another ace pic James, with (I think) a nice Ford Consul Capri in the foreground. I remember that fruit and veg shop too now you mention it. Funny how it survived being out on a limb like that. I think the area in question was used as a car park before the fence you mentioned was put up, as you coul...
