Thanks, can you rack your brains as to a name for the series?

Anyone remember a TV series from the late 80s/90s about a messiah character and his mates? A modern-day allegory. Can't find anything on web. Fairly gritty, think it was based in Clydebank. Probably BBC production though not sure. Any thoughts? Thanks.
