Re: Jobs with Glasgow City Council

ET Council staff may face pay freezes COUNCIL workers across Scotland could face a pay freeze for the next four years. Local authorities may be forced to ban wage rises if the government decides to slash public sector spending because of the recession. Almost 300,000 workers are employed by 32 coun...

Re: Lockerbie Remembered

From The Diary

A READER in a London boozer overhears a chap at the bar declare: "I know when you go to Scotland you have to use their own Monopoly money.

"But I didn't realise they give you a Get Out of Jail Free card as well."

http://martinkelly.blogspot.com/2009/08/like-bird-on-wing.html . ... Scottish civic nationalism is not renowned for its principles - the SNP's preposterous adoption of the title 'The Scottish Government' to describe its minority devolved Scottish Executive is a particularly egregious case in point ...

Re: Binge Drinking

There's a lot of political posturing about Diageo. To imagine Scottish Enterprise will find a business case where Diageo couldn't is fantasy UNLESS a whole bunch of public money is injected. At some point somebody is going to have to do a cost/ benefit analysis and either pay up or not. The sooner ...

Re: Lockerbie Remembered

If some eedjit decides to to cancel their bus tour of the lochs over this, then that is easily a price worth paying for a justice system that does not bow before the whimsy of Fox News. The Justice Secretary is in charge of justice, that's correct. He is not charge of the nation's compassion. If we...

Re: Binge Drinking

I've had extensive dealings with East Ayrshire Council, and at first thought that the cooncilors were all thick cunts. It soon dawned on me that the worthy cooncilors made decisions on what their employees told them, and that rarely had little to do with facts. Cooncil employees lived in little fie...

I'm very grateful to them :D Both have been supportive above and beyond.

Re: Onyirtodd's Dedicated Thread

Pensioners battle it out as bitter dispute culminates in punch-up TWO OAPs were involved in a street brawl after a bitter dispute boiled over. In scenes reminiscent of the television programme Still Game, punches were thrown as the two granddads rolled around in the road. HH and OYT finally get it ...

Re: Binge Drinking

It looks as if they're not 'seeking further advice' - they're writing their own report. Fair point and presumably they'll draw on information prepared by their own officials and "consultants". I note the BBC article mentions that the report won't be made public however Scotland On Sunday ...

Re: Binge Drinking

No, I've already explained what I believe ought to be done (and probably will be done). I was merely pointing out the stupidity of ordering an independent report and then binning it 'cos you don't like what it says. That's the sort of thing that gives local politicians a bad name. East Ayrshire has...

Having encouraged Scottish Enterprise to pay BDO Stoy Hayward £75,000 for "an independent consultants' report into Diageo's plans in Scotland"; East Ayrshire Council has decided it doesn't like what they've been told so they're doing their own  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/gl...
