Re: random question

Freecycle - excellent idea thanks! I will get on that as soon as possible.

Facebook, sadly (not sadly) is not a feature I am familiar with, but will keep it in mind if freecycle doesnt produce any typewriter shaped fruit.

Cheers

Re: random question

Got to this thread by searching for 'Typewriter' I am looking to get my hands on a manual typewriter, specifically the typebars with the actual type letters on them. I don't want proper antique ones, as I don't want to ruin them (will be using the letters in a fairly destructive manner) for an exper...

Re: Glasgow 1960s and what was called ‘redevelopment’

I appreciate it's not about building in the best areas but the successors of the old community based housing associations still tend to operate in/ around their traditional geographical areas. You wouldn't, for example, expect Partick HA to be developing in Shettleston or Govanhill. Folk waiting fo...

Re: Glasgow 1960s and what was called ‘redevelopment’

Not having a go in any way, but this is partly what I am trying to get at. ..fund nice stuff like design, renewable energy provision, buy land in 'nice' bits of the city.. That design is integral, and critical, to well-being and a successful development is not something that is recognised. It's such...

Re: Glasgow 1960s and what was called ‘redevelopment’

Agree entirely, and think this is what I was trying to say about changing attitudes as well as buildings. In saying that, its important to recognise when a building is actually beyond saving or not in the best interests of anyone to save. Unfortunately, there appears to be no social driver at the cu...

Re: Glasgow 1960s and what was called ‘redevelopment’

As an architect, I would love to be given the chance to design residential based on the principles that tenements gave us. High ceilings, large rooms, big windows, robust materials. Beautiful decoration of the fabric. List goes on. Of course there are plenty elements that could be improved upon for ...

Don't recall the bang, but certainly recall the stench that wafted over.... 8O

Re: Yet Another City Centre fire

Generally yeah the insulation should not be combustable, especially on a building of this height. Traditional build, there should be no combustible materials in the cavity of a traditional building this height - perhaps the reading of the regulations has allowed for something different in the specif...

Re: Glasgow 1960s and what was called ‘redevelopment’

I think we are arguing the same points more or less from different standpoints. I agree entirely with you that regulation is what is called for. Regulation both of the technological schemes and also the installation and maintenance etc. I also agree entirely with you that retrofit is an enormously i...

Re: Glasgow 1960s and what was called ‘redevelopment’

I am not attacking you or criticising you or anything you do. I don't believe I was saying anything directly about you lacking common sense, simply that I dont know you to do otherwise. I am broadly condemning of the current trend for fashionable retrofit of stock housing through the addition of sol...

Re: Glasgow 1960s and what was called ‘redevelopment’

Bingo Bango I hope you can do me the credit of at least having some common sense... especially when you read the contents of my earlier comments. As an experienced property guy I have of course researched the product and specification and the installation company I have opted for. Anything you do t...

Re: Glasgow 1960s and what was called ‘redevelopment’

In my household we have been very quick on the uptake and jumped into a couple of Scottish Government schemes over the past two years. More recently we spotted a free cavity-fill insulation scheme and are taking advantage of that. Again there will be substantial savings from that (albeit this examp...

Re: Links to funny, cool or interesting stuff

http://www.geoguessr.com/ This is a fun wee game using google streetview and maps. I have varied wildly from closest estimate of 9km to furthest of about 14,000! I try not to move down the street from the original point, and certainly never use google search to help me oh no definitely not.
