Re: ICI Ardeer - Nylon Plant

The power station was (or actually, is) to the south of the Nylon Works, so would be just off camera to the right in the above photograph. Its still intact but unused I think, and the building's chimneys can be seen from a few miles around. The two chimneys in the photo I posted at the bottom of the...

Re: ICI Ardeer - Nylon Plant

There are very few photos of the plant in operation, that I've ever seen anyway. There's the 1974 photo by a Bob Bryden that I posted a long time ago in this thread... http://www.evilpenguins.co.uk/ici.jpg ...and there's also this nice earlier photo from Stevenston: The Kernel of Cunninghame : http:...

Re: ICI Ardeer - Nylon Plant

There's a nice panoramic photo of the Nylon Works under construction in McSherry's Old Stevenston book, and there's a photo of the 'sphere' building you mentioned here , taken in the late 80s. I vaguely remember seeing the sphere as late as the early 90s, I assume they demolished it around the same ...

Re: Giffen Station

Their excuse was that it would cost something like £1.3 million to repair the bridge, or £500k to blow it up.

Re: Bogside Racecourse

Nah they do a weekly article on old sports grounds and it was Bogside this week. No houses yet, its meant to be being kept as a nature reserve or whatever but we'll see.

Ravenspark Hospital next door however has got some flat/house building in progress on the site now...

Re: Bogside Racecourse

Another big bump, some self-plugging and a thank you: Some of the pictures that I posted at the start of this thread were today featured in the Observer newspaper. Although the newspaper got in touch with me via Geograph, a Google search for 'Bogside Racecourse' brings up this thread as the first re...

Gree Viaduct

Bit of a bump, but thought it might be worth mentioning that the Gree Viaduct, mentioned much earlier in the thread, is about to be demolished. After umming and erring for 5 years looks like BRB has finally decided to get rid of it. A road for the workers has been built, and the viaduct is expected ...

My X set up a wireless network in my house, for the kids, connecting their computer to mine as well as the internet. Someone out there very quickly detected us, downloaded their printer onto my computer (a mistake I believe), over-riding my own printer, and then proceeded to download porn, and lots...

The parameters I used were simply "irvine sawmill" (without the quotes), which brought up a single result. There's an option on the right hand side saying "View images online" or words to that effect.

Need to make sure you are in the canmore section of the site as well. :)

The RCAHMS's Canmore site has an entry for a sawmill in Irvine's Montgomery Street (can't direct link it as you have to log in to the site, etc). There's a bunch of photos there too taken in 1977, some show quite detailed interior views. It gives the name of the owner as "Matthew Wright and nep...

Ravenspark Hospital? Sad state of affairs, went on fire about a year ago, and since then about half of the site has been demolished. Think all that's left is the listed buildings, and even then they are falling to pieces. I seem to recall there was a group of people, Ghost Hunters or some such, who ...

I can confirm that there's a roundabout on the outskirts of Airdrie with no exits. I always assumed there there must have been plans for industrial units or housing which never came to fruition. There's a roundabout on the outskirts of Dreghorn, near Irvine, which only has two exits (i.e. making it...

I thought Simba was just a fan of The Lion King!

Remember once on Reporting Scotland they pronounced 'Dalry' as DAL-ray, rather than the local dal-RI. Also Irvine, often gets called 'Ir-vine' (sounds like wine).

I was the one that actually posted the red line railway pics ;). And it must be a matter of perspective because I see the line as being deep into the ground with an embankment to the side of it! :) You can just see it go under a road bridge at very far right of the old pic. I'm pretty sure the green...
