Re: White Swan Pub, East End?

Thanks for consulting "the orcacle" Eddy. I'm beginning to think that maybe the name has got a bit muddled over the years. Good thought Mark N, but nah, the one thing that is definite is that it was in Glasgow! Maybe I'll just have to leave this one for now and come back to it at a later d...

Thanks for the suggestions Onny and papa lazarou
No way of knowing if it might be one of these.... that was the name I was given but perhaps the name has been remembered incorrectly.

Re: White Swan Pub, East End?

Hi Onny Thanks for the suggestions. I don't think it can be either of those "White Houses" as one of those pubs mentioned seems to have closed in the 1920s and the other is in Maryhill, which I don't think would be thought of as in the "east end". It is a good web site for lookin...

White Swan Pub, East End?

Does anyone know if there was a pub called "The White Swan" in the East End? It may not be there now, but I gather it was there around the late 1950s. If anyone remembers it, can you remember what street it was in/where it was or anything else about it? Any help would be much appreciated. ...

If you go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk and put in 257026,661488 as a co-ordinate you can see the bridge in 1863.

Hi Pgcc93 Thats interesting and thanks for the map. The place is mentioned as Elgin Villas in several sources - had it just been the one I'd be thinking it might be a mistake. I wonder if it was later named Elgin Cottage? 1867 - Daniel's wife died at Elgin Villas, Shawlands, Glasgow (as per death en...

Hi Blueboy Where/how did you hear about Elgin Villas? Trying to track it down as it was the home of one Daniel McNicol, (my gr gr grandfather) who was a builder and mason in the 1871 census. I suspect it may have been one of the villas mentioned on this thread which have been demolished. If you find...

Hello
I'm new to this forum.

I'm trying to find out about Elgin Villas, Shawlands - does anyone know its exact location? And does anyone know if any pictures of the building exist?

Any information regarding Elgin Villas would be very welcome.
