Antonov 225 Mryia

A superb aircraft built specifically to transport the Russian equivalent of the Space Shuttle. I was lucky enough to see it take off from Prestwick a few years ago when it made a very rare visit to Britain. A shame they only built one, although they were talking about completing the second aircraft ...

Bundys

There were Bundys at Bridgeton Cross and Parkhead Cross, both brick built affairs, now demolished. There was also a Corporation Transport office on Alexandra Parade at Aitken Street where drivers and conductors could have their breaks and which also acted as a Bundy. It was also a haunt for the drea...

County Buildings/Hamilton Barracks

The County Buildings were built on the site of the old Hamilton Barracks, weren't they? If so, I might have a photo of it. I'll go look. It was Bell College which was built on the site of the old Hamilton Barracks. At one time, one end of the Barracks was a cavalry barracks and the other end was fo...

Blackhill House

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I'm really grateful for all the suggestions. Bit of background: I was born in Deveron Street and spent the first thirty years of my life running around Riddrie. I was a librarian with Glasgow District Libraries for twenty years and spent quite a bit of them moochi...

Blackhill House

I am fairly sure that the 'Big Field' behind the tenements which still has large beech trees in it was the front garden. I think it was pulle...

Ranging Boards in Temple

As others have said, when Barr & Stroud still had their works in Anniesland, these boards were used to check things like periscopes, rangefinders and binoculars. They were the equivalent of the eye test boards you get at the optician. They were still there when I was appointed librarian at Templ...

Lord provost lamps

Came across this forum only recently. The Lamps in Riddrie were/are in Riddrie Crescent off Riddrie Knowes. I think that they belonged to Sir Myer Galpern.
