Re: Round stones Garscube estate

Oooops !!!!
I just had a look on Google earth and the things I mentioned have been removed 8O
Maybe they moved them and put/dumped them where you've found them !
Upload a pic to Flickr and post the link, it sounds like the same things as the sides of them were 'corrugated'....

Re: Round stones Garscube estate

Do you mean the big cylindrical concrete lumps at/on the bridge in Garscube estate ? Surely that's what you're referring to as they are the only 'corrugated' 'stones' in there that I'm aware of. I was told that their purpose was anti-tank bollards dating back to WW2 ! One of the 'custodians/security...

Re: lift on/ in traditional tenements

There's a lift in a tenement on Queen Margaret Drive, just opposite the botanics. The only lift I've ever seen in a tenement ! I can't remember what number but if memory serves me correct, it had a white main door and the block is 4 storeys high.

Re: Subway today

Thanks for the replies ! The George Bennie connection hadn't crossed my mind and it may well be related somehow but it is strange there is no information about the object ! I'm going to ask the staff the next time I buy a ticket and see if they know anything about it... (I'm surprised the typo-polic...

Re: Subway today

Bolted up high on the wall of the stairs as you go down to the platform in Kelvinhall underground station, there is a piece of metallic 'art' up there ! It looks like a huge corkscrew on its side with an old engine radiator fan welded onto its end ! Does anyone out there know its significance/histor...

Re: Edinburgh

Forgive me for pointing out the obvious!! I can see by some earlier posts, it has been pointed out before, however, I thought this site was called 'HIDDEN GLASGOW', not 'hidden Edinburgh', hidden Scotland or hidden anything-else ! All I ever experienced when socialising in Edinburgh was contempt and...

Hideous smell at cathcart road M74 works....

When I went for a cycle today from Partick to East kilbride I took a route that led me by the M74 works at Cathcart road and the smell around there was hideous to say the least ! Like nothing I've ever, (fortunately), smelled in my life....Hideously indescribable !!! Seriously, I hope they sort it s...

Re: Glasgows Closed Railway Routes

Hi and thanks for the replies, I remember the old 'signal box' (pub) 'cos neds would chuck bricks etc over the edge as you walked by!! (whilst on the way to the 100 Break snooker club that used to be there)!! That plot looked very 'railway-ish' and like an old goods yard of some nature. It fascinate...

Re: Glasgows Closed Railway Routes

Hi all, I was looking on google earth at the now filled in bridge on crow road (up at the lock27). I was wondering where the old line originated and where it went! I remember in the early 80's a HUGE plant/structural thing going on. When I asked one of the workmen they told me the petrol station had...
