Re: Glasgow 1960s montage

Excellent find. Brings back a lot of memories.

George Square is a shambles these days compared to what it once was.

Re: Bob HollowHorn

Like a few others, I am not on here often at all now due to the other pressures of work and life generally. I just spotted the sad news about Bob tonight. I am really saddened to hear this, I had the pleasure of his company a few times at HG drinks nights and found him to be like his posts on here, ...

Re: Govan Graving Docks

New City Vision still own the Govan graving docks site. I would be surprised if the development goes ahead any time soon as detailed in Crusty's earlier post above. Building inside the dock basins, is likely to be cost prohibitive. I recall passing the Govan Graving Docks on the top deck of a bus ma...

Re: Buried chemical waste hazard

Re Soccaroo's comment about a desktop study of brownfield sites. My point was about chemical waste being dumped in a number of sites which I know about by numerous agencies over extensive areas. This is not information easily obtained by any desk-top study but only from local knowledge. Sites such ...

Re: Buried chemical waste hazard

That's how Dixon's Blazes got it's name. Down and outs used to sleep on the slag heaps to keep warm, one night the crust broke and the men were killed. The Templeton Carpet factory was built on the site and men who worked on the night shift claim to have seen figures in corridors but as they got cl...

Re: Buried chemical waste hazard

A good decision to add strengthening pieces if that has happened :)

Re: Tower Block Demolitions - Rolling Updates!

My theory about the red road flats delay is that when they were going to blow them down for the commonwealth they would work fast to get everything prepped in time. But when they decided to can the idea they could slow back down a bit since there was no longer a rush. Actually, were they not going ...

Re: george square accident

Just saw it on BBC news. Horrific - out of control bin lorry travelled 300m up Queen Street from outside the GOMA hitting pedestrians before stopping when it hit the hotel on the North side of George Square. 6 dead, several injured.

Re: Scottish Power building - St Vincent Street

CDM regs (which all large building projects have to abide by) have pretty strict guidelines on the placement and use of tower cranes - you have to put together a method statement on how you are going to organise all your crane stuff - which all has to conform to BS7121 (I think is the right standar...

Scottish Power building - St Vincent Street

I see that Laing O Rourke have now put up three luffing jib tower cranes on the Site of the new Scottish Power building on St Vincent Street. Given how closely placed together that the cranes are, I think that this is an accident waiting to happen. I hope that I am wrong, but they will need to have ...
